CostClock was developed as a resource to be used in meetings to remind people that time is valuable and should be spent wisely. The original iteration of the site was created over a weekend; a long, rambling, non-productive Friday afternoon meeting provided the needed inspiration.
The people in the search are public employees in New Jersey. Salary information for New Jersey public employees is freely available. That data is sourced from the following locations:
The amount displayed is based on the total time elapsed and the total salaries of all the participants. The displayed monetary value is based on the participants upon refresh (each second or change), so adding or removing individuals will reflect the cost as if the timer was started with the current participants at the beginning of the timer.
For the people you add to the meeting (as opposed to selecting from the public employees), they are only tracked within your browser session. We do not collect or store information on the custom participants you create. In the future, a feature may be to retain people and have them available to you after logging in.
Like most websites, we use some visitor tracking (in this case Google Analytics) and requests against the search functionality is logged. The logs are only retained for 60 days and are used to help troubleshoot issues or identify abuse. You may also receive third-party cookies from other advertisers on this site.
